Chinese Plant Genetic Resources Information System (PGRIS) is a central repository for all kinds of crop genetic resources information. It consists mainly of six databases:

1. crop characterization and evaluation database
2. management database of the national genebank
3. management database of the national duplicate genebank
4. management database of the national germplasm resources nursery
5. database for germplasm exchange at home and abroad
6. management database of the medium term storage

PGRIS was established in 1988. At present, there are over 2,000 megabytes data on 180 kinds of crops (including grain crops, oil crops, fiber plants, vegetables, fruit trees, tea, mulberry, tobacco, sugar, pasture and green manure crops, tropical fruits etc.), and 380,000 accessions of germplasm stored. The electronic map system, chromosome and fingerprinting automatic recognizing system, pedigree tracing system and statistical analysis software for plant genetic resources have been established since 1995. The PGRIS can rapidly provide needed information for the breeders and farmers. 28 million data items have been provided to 57 countries and international organizations in recent years.
